About the corps

Hills View Rescue Corps began with a handful of people who kept arriving at crash scenes on the Egbeda road and finding no one in charge. There was no ambulance on the way, no one who knew how to move an injured person without making it worse, and no one willing to take responsibility for a stranger.

So we trained. We bought stretchers and trauma kits out of our own pockets, put a phone number on a sticker, and started answering it. Today the corps runs a call roster across Ibadan, staffed entirely by volunteers who leave their work and their beds to attend.

Rescue is only half of it. The people we carry to hospital often have no one to sit with them and no money for the bill. The young people held in juvenile centres get almost no visitors at all. We go back for both, because getting someone off the road is not the same as getting them through what comes next.
