We will never have enough responders to reach every crash first. The people who already are there — okada riders, taxi drivers, traders working the roadside — can be the difference if they know three or four things.
The course is free and takes half a day. It covers controlling bleeding, opening an airway, how to move someone without worsening a spinal injury, and when not to move them at all. It also covers what to say when calling for help so that responders can find the scene.
We run it in motor parks, markets and transport union halls, in the languages people actually speak on those roads.
